Abstract:
The present work focuses on the numerical analysis of the annual performance of a 1-MWe hybrid biomass-solar CSP power plant with 2-tanks TES direct system. Molten salts have been considered as thermal storage fluid and HTF, in order to improve the operative temperature range of the system. The integration of the CSP with a biomass boiler aims at improving the flexibility and competitiveness of the hybrid power system, increasing the number of equivalent operative hours and decreasing the size of the solar arrays, while enhancing the biomass short supply chain. The performance of the moving grate biomass boiler has been modeled by a customized set of functions implemented in MATLAB environment, which are then integrated into TRNSYS in order to simulate the entire hybrid power plant. Simulations demonstrate that the hybrid power system operates for a higher number of equivalent hours than the simple CSP, and with a biomass demand approximately 25% lower than the conventional biomass-fired CHP.
