Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to present a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based modelling method for predicting fouling and corrosion in kraft recovery boiler. Kraft recovery boiler is one type of biomassfired boilers. The modelling method combines the modelling of alkali metal chemistry as well as the formation of fine fume particles. Commercial CFD software ANSYS/FLUENT, the Fine Particle Model (FPM) extension of it, and the chemical database software FactSage are used in the modelling. The results of the model are in the same range as results from other publications, even though the model still includes several simplifications. After more development work, the modelling method can be used as a tool in kraft recovery boiler design. For example, it could be able to show what kind of requirements the different chemical compounds set on boiler structure and on boiler operating conditions. Thus, the model might help to increase the efficiency of the kraft recovery boilers.
