Abstract:
A new fully continuous FCC pilot plant with internally circulating fluidized bed is presented. The design of an existing FCC pilot plant was adapted and new features were added to enhance its flexibility and controllability. An additional possibility to influence the catalyst circulation rate by varying the crosssectional area at the riser inlet was installed and tested. Gas leakage experiments were conducted. A new cooler system was added. The cooler system allows thermal decoupling of riser and regenerator reactors and is presented in detail. Nonsteady state riser inlet temperatures and an undesired backmixing effect of cooled catalyst into the regenerator occurred during first test runs. Therefore, modifications were made. Experiments at different cooler settings were conducted and the influence on the riser inlet temperature was investigated. Feed experiments with hydro treated vacuum gasoil were carried out to test the operability of the whole plant. The pilot plant was successfully put into operation.
