Abstract:
A Drop Tube Furnace was used to assess the ash deposition behavior of sunflower husks during their combustion in gratefired boilers. The high chlorine and phosphorus contents of this fuel are considered as potential slagging and fouling risks. It was found that the usual labscale characterization tools were not able to predict the potential issues due the formation of low melting temperature alkali and alkaliearth phosphates that were found on the deposition probes during the Drop Tube Furnace tests.
