Abstract:
This study aims to evaluate the potential for electricity generation in the State of São Paulo from the treatment of sewage. A WWTP (Wastewater Treatment Plant) with domain in the production of biogas from wastewater treatment is based on a case study, paraem function cover the study to the entire state. The basic premise is that the very generation of electricity in WWTPs is advantageous for companies in the sanitation sector in Brazil, resulting in the treatment process cost reductions. The gains at the end of the process are checked at three levels, namely: (i) environmental, by reducing the sludge dumped in nature, the issue of CO2 rather than methane which is more harmful in relation to the greenhouse effect; (Ii) social, by using a resource that is residue of an existing service in the cities, the reuse of water implemented in society; and (iii) political, the increase of a new energy source. Resulting in the contribution to the improvement of the above problems, since it is a subject little studied in the sector. The generation of electricity through biogas from the sewage treatment plants is a multidisciplinary current issue and, therefore, a subject of great interest from project developers.
