Abstract:
The strategy of biomass fast pyrolysis and in-line catalytic steam reforming of volatile products for hydrogen production has been investigated in a reactor system consisted on two subsequent reactors: A conical spouted bed reactor (CSBR) for pyrolysis of biomass at 500ºC and a fluidized bed reactor for catalytic steam reforming of volatiles formed at 600ºC. The catalytic performance was studied over two nickel based catalysts prepared by wet impregnation method: Ni/Al2O3 and Ni/La2O3-Al2O3. The study of the influence of the addition of the promoter La2O3 on the Al2O3 support has shown an effectively improvement on the catalyst stability obtaining a carbon conversion up to 90% until 140 min on stream. Furthermore, the decayed with time on stream of H2 yield was also attenuated maintaining a H2 yield almost constant for 100 min on stream. The results obtained prove the capacity of lanthanum as a modifier of the Al2O3 support for enhancing the CO2 adsorption and therefore leading the gasification of coke precursors, which are the main constraint in the catalyst deactivation.
