Abstract:
Blends of pyrolysis oil with crude glycerin, residue of the biodiesel production, are a possibility found to improve each other. The intention to develop this mixture occurs mainly because pyrolysis oil has small pH and could react with glycerin that has high pH because of the caustic soda dissolved. Furthermore, methanol in crude glycerin acts like a surfactant. It was possible to identify homogeneous mixtures in blends made. It was selected blends with pH between 5 – 7. A mixture with 25% of bio-oil and 75% of crude glycerin was chosen among blends with specified pH. A physical-chemical properties study was made and some factors like the higher carbon content and the lower content of oxygen and water compared to the reagents indicate a possible chemical reaction.
