Abstract:
The IntRESS project initiated by the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety developed new insights, options and recommendations for international sustainable resource use policies through engaging the scientific community and relevant stakeholders. This paper presents the further development of the general framework, which was devoted to the assessment of the perspectives that can be taken when approaching the issue of land targets. The framework offered the structure for the discussion and evaluation of various concrete options for targets in the area of land. This paper described some of the most influential concepts of resource targets regarding land use in relation to Rockström et al.‘s suggestion of planetary boundaries. It gives answers to the aforementioned questions. We suggested an approach towards setting land resource targets.
