Abstract:
An experimental study was carried out to evaluate the influence of acoustic enhancement on the biomass combustion process in fixed bed. This study was carried out in a laboratory-scale furnace of an hybrid water/fire tubes boiler using eucalyptus wood as fuel. In a first step the operational parameters of the boiler were determined experimentally. The equipment was tested without acoustic enhancement (test 1). The reference profiles of the temperatures and the composition of the gas in the combustion bed and in the chimney were also recorded. In a second stage the evaluation of the acoustic intensification of the combustion was carried out with the installation of a source of sound waves at the inlet of the primary air duct (tests 2 and 3). This evaluation was carried out through the comparative analysis of the temperature profile in combustion chamber, mainly in bed, of the gas composition in bed and in the chimney, for the equipment operating with and without acoustic intensification.
