Abstract:
This document provides an overview and a summary of current status of the EU-funded projects in the area of Bio-fuelled Heating and Combined Heating & Power (CHP) systems under Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation (2014-2020). The Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) of the European Commission is managing the funding and following up the implementation of the different funded actions throughout their life cycle. Projects supported include research and innovation of bio-fuelled CHP and heating solutions such as FlexiFuel-SOFC, Bio-HyPP, FlexiFuel-CHX, Residue2Heat, HiEff-BioPower, Biofficiency or FLEXCHX, which represent a total EU contribution of 34.8 M€. According to the requirements of the specific topics, funded actions are developing the next generation technologies of bio-fuelled combined electricity and/or heating/cooling with a significant improvement in their efficiency and a wider feedstock base, such as agricultural and forest residues, upgraded solid or liquid bioenergy carriers with higher energy density and industrial by-products, at micro, small, medium and large-scale. The projects are significantly contributing to advance the state-of-the-art by developing cost effective, highly-efficient, low-emission systems allowing the use of solid, liquid or gaseous sustainable biomass feedstock.
