Abstract:
Klimaaktiv qm heizwerke is a quality management program throughout Austria in order to improve the technical quality and efficiency of biomass heating plants and district heating grids. The quality management process requires the submission of annual operating reports of each heating plant. To get insights into the current status of these plants an automated benchmarking system was developed to calculate key performance indicators (KPIs) based on these annual reports. The KPIs are compared with benchmarks and reference values from other plants. Hence, operating data of about 500 Austrian biomass district heating plants and networks was evaluated. The results show that applying quality management leads to significant improvements of the plants and helps to achieve a successful long term plant operation.
