Abstract:
Laccases are enzymes capable of oxidizing phenolic compounds and play an important role in delignification processes. White-rot fungi are the main producers of these enzymes, and lignocellulosic materials, like rice husk, could enhance their expression. Strategies to increase laccase production and delignification are desired, such as co-cultures of Pleurotus ostreatus with Saccharomyces cerevisiae or Candida utilis. Other trigger factors in this process are the level of glucose at thr pre-inoculum, as well as the day of yeast inoculation. For all co-cultures with or without glucose in pre-inoculum, laccase activity reduced compared to monocultures, but in contrast an increasement in delignification was observed. Co-cultures of P. ostreatus with S. cerevisiae are suitable for delignification process due to the apparent low glucose releasing. Further studies over changen in lignocellulose should be performed to understand the effect of yeast in the process of delignification.
