Abstract:
It is relevant to develop alternative energy sources in the countries as Lithuania, where there are no fossil fuel resources. Thus, it is especially important to use biomass and various waste in the energy sector for heat and power production. One of the technologies for this is gasification. Oxygen can be used instead of air to produce nitrogen-free synthetic gases. However, it should be noted that oxygen lowers the gasification temperature and increases the tar concentration in the gas, and such gas needs to be cleaned up of tar. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to carry out the research on effectiveness of ceramic fiber filter for cleaning up the synthetic gas from tar, resulting after oxygen gasification. Experiments were performed in downdraft gasifier with rated heat output of 100 kW. The experimental downdraft gasifier consists of four main parts: biomass feeding system, downdraft gasifier, ceramic fiber filter, and combustion chamber. Forestry waste residues were used for the experimental study.
