Abstract:
The Bazancourt-Pomacle biorefinery is recognized as a model of industrial and territorial ecology. The companies present on the site are not a simple juxtaposition but are interdependent of each other. In this ecosystem, biomass is transformed and the byproducts obtained become raw materials that feed other productions on the site. Thus, the plant is valorized in its entirety and allows to answer the economic, environmental and societal stakes. Optimizing this dynamic was not achieved overnight and it was the presence of a science-industry continuum covering the TRL scale on the site that made it possible. 2020 marks the entrance of a new biomass on the site and therefore the prospects of developing it in its entirety by integrating all fractions and byproducts among the inter-company synergies. The ecosystem must integrate this new biomass, and therefore adapt, reorganize, and reoptimize itself to get the best out of the plant with economic and environmental efficiency. The key will again be the spirit of innovation via research, guaranteeing sustainability, applicability and commercial opportunities.
