Abstract:
Simulating a single company’s current or potential interaction with a system enables the study of difference in economic and environmental impacts due to resource, waste, and energy pathway changes. It also makes it possible to determine the potential benefit or lack thereof if a product or company were to integrate in this circular economy platform. A metric is required to properly visualize this impact and convey this to a large audience of different backgrounds. Eco-efficiency Index can be used to study the economic and environmental impacts from the point of view of the stakeholders which incorporates environmental and economic impacts. However, the resulting metric can be complicated to comprehend for a everyone without reading the details of the study or in some cases understanding the intricacies of the product system. A General Eco-Efficiency Index or GEI which is represented in monetary terms (Euros) makes the visualization and conveyance possible and convenient.
