Abstract:
This work investigates the driving forces and the barriers that influences the evolution of biodiesel producers in Greece. The biodiesel producing industrial units were mapped annually using a Geographical Information System based application, practical for interpreting the spatiotemporal distribution of biodiesel production units. In addition, the penetration of biodiesel in Greece was analyzed and a new simulation model was proposed. The developed herein simulation model predicted the capacity, the quantity distributed by the government and the real production of biodiesel for the year 2034 based on the 2004-2023 annual data. The parameters of the simulation model were determined in each case, using the non-linear regression analysis technique. The standard error of estimate showed the goodness of the fitting. Moreover, the developed simulation model was also applied to the European Union (EU) annual biodiesel production data as regards the period 2003-2022 and a forecasting effort was done as regards the year 2034.
