Abstract:
Soil water availability is the main limiting factor for the productivity of bioenergy perennial grasses (BPGs) on Mediterranean marginal lands. A tool for maximising the efficiency of crop water input would have profound effects on the water footprint and on the energy balance of these crops. This study aims to develop a model to predict crop water use (CWU) based on leaf area expansion using data from a field data assessing the responses of three Miscanthus hybrids, two Arundo donax clones and one clone of Saccharum spontaneum spp. aegyptiacum under three levels of irrigation input.
