Abstract:

The SusValEn Project's goal is to convert biowaste from the wood processing and manufacturing industry into sustainable biogas, H2, biochar, and biomethanol. Biochar has been successfully produced from lignocellulosic waste sourced from different biomasses like poplar, birch, and chestnut. The results show that the biochars produced meet the chemical composition and porous texture requirements of effective CO2 adsorbent materials for gas separation in industrial streams. They offer various advantages, including low environmental impact, resilience to humid conditions, easy regeneration, and the potential for a net reduction of carbon emissions when integrated into BECCS (Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage) processes.
