Abstract:
Precise estimation of crop biomass is a crucial stake as the need of food production increases, and the agricultural production is affected by climate change. Due to their spatial extent and frequent revisit time, remote sensing optical data are increasingly used and coupled with agromodel tools to estimate crop biomass. In this paper, we assess the added value of the PlanetFusion product to estimate maize biomass in a field through the AgriCarbon-EO processing chain in comparison with biomass estimates obtained with Sentinel-2 images. The impact of the differences of spectral bands, resolution and availability is assessed and validated against observation data. The PlanetFusion resolution allows to distinguish more spatial heterogeneity in comparison with Sentinel-2. The best biomass estimation were obtained with the PlanetFusion estimates that were statistically corrected to S2-like estimates.
