Abstract:
Currently, hemp is grown to obtain textile fiber, industrial fiber, seeds for use in the agri-food, extractive and reproductive sectors. The residues from cultivation and those remaining from processing should not be considered as waste but, in a circular economy perspective, can be recovered and used as secondary raw materials into new production cycles. Various technologies are applied for biomass exploitation. In this study, the valorisation of hemp biomass was achieved through thermochemical conversion. The focus of the study was based on the physico-chemical characterization of hemp biomass residues together with a TGA/DSC (Thermogravimetric Analysis) simulation/analysis in pyrolysis to identify the most suitable pathway for the energetic valorisation of the hemp woody residues (stalks and stems) to produce biochar for agricultural and/or energy purposes.
