Abstract:
The paper examines the benefits of co-combusting biomass waste with fossil solid fuels in a laboratory testing facility. The current state of the Romanian energy sector is challenging, with significant hurdles to overcome. Future solutions must address the need for energy storage systems to ensure grid sustainability and security. The co-combustion process results in reduced pollutant concentrations in the flue gases, leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, specifically CO2. The concluding section highlights key aspects of this technology and provides insights into the current status of the Romanian energy sector. It also discusses future requirements to meet EU expectations, aiming to fully transition to renewable energy by 2050 or sooner.
