Abstract:
Biogas production plays an important role in mitigating climate change and recycling nutrients. Biogas replaces fossil fuels, and utilizing the nutrients from digestates in recycled fertilizers and growing media reduces the use of mineral fertilizers and increases nutrient self-sufficiency. The BioLuuppi demonstration and research environment has two continuously operating 0,5 m3 biogas reactors, where new feed materials can be tested in controlled conditions, making their implementation in full-scale plants less risky. The biogas production of the green fodder was tested in a continuous dry process in demonstration scale environment. The temperature of the reactor was kept at 39 °C. It was found that poor quality and mouldy green fodder significantly weakens the production of biogas and the functioning of the process. The result highlights the importance to store the green fodder in optimal conditions and mould-free.
