Abstract:
The objective of the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) and, subsequently, of the Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (Agency for Renewable Resources, FNR) as the ministry’s project management organisation is to support the technological development and market introduction of improved measures to reduce finest particle emissions from small-scale combustion plants fired with solid biofuels. For this purpose, the BMELV opened a joint call for R&D projects on this topic in 2007. In the frame of this call, 14 projects were funded on the development of different measures to reduce fine particle emissions from small-scale combustion biomass plants (SSC). These projects are now finalised. The results show that combined measures with primary and secondary options to reduce particle emissions from SSC achieve the best results and are promising options for a successful market introduction.
