Abstract:
This paper deals with a micro CHP plant, based on a commercial Micro Gas Turbine (MGT, 100 kWe) modified to an externally fired cycle. The system is characterized by a dual combustion system. A significant share of the total energy input (ca. 60%) is given by solid wood biomass that feed a biomass furnace: the remaining primary energy is provided by natural gas internal combustion. The plant will supply electric power, heat and cold through an absorption chiller to the enduser. Object of this work is the description of main activities carried out up to now: design, installation, commissioning, preliminary tests and first start up. Many studies and calculations have been carried out about BIO_MGT system in order to drive the design activity. At this step of the project we report which is the final configuration (best compromise between high performance and high reliability), which are the main components and how they have been designed aiming to make them suitable to operate on the BIO_MGT system. After installation and plant commissioning, preliminary running tests have been carried out. The first data analysis and evaluation of the plant test results are reported. The BIO_MGT project is sustained by the European Commission DGTREN with a Specific Targeted Research or Innovation Project (STREP) of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
