Abstract:
Soot formation in a reverse flow partial oxidation reactor for reforming of gasifier product gas has been studied. The process was modeled using a detailed reaction mechanism to describe the kinetics of soot formation. The simulations show that soot will be formed in the reverse flow reformer under the modeled conditions. Two different prereformers were studied to investigate possible ways to reduce soot formation. It can be concluded that if the tars present in the product gas can be prereformed the soot formation will be significantly reduced. The low amount of oxygen used for the reforming process makes tar reduction, and consequently soot reduction, problematic. Further studies of soot formation in reforming of biomass gasification gas are needed.
