Abstract:
During the last years Biofuels were promoted as perfect alternatives to fossil fuuels with a substantial potential for mitigating greenhouse ggas emissions. However, Biofuels cannot be seen as sustainaable per se. They need to fulfill high social, environmental aand economic requirements. Along with this, an improved aacceptance in both, the political sector and the public is vvital for the future relevance and broad utilisation of Bioofuels. The necessary standardisation and certification of BBiofuels can be achieved either by designing a completely new generic standard or through a process of proofing the compliance with a referring metastandard.
