Abstract:
Thermo-chemical treatment can be a relevant technology for biomass thermal valorization. To improve heat transfer to the material, the PYROBIO rtm (patented Finaxo Environnement technology) continuous technology uses steel balls that are heated through an external loop and is transported to a pyrolysis furnace combining the pyrolysis and water gasification to produce heat (pyrolysis gas co-burning with natural gas) or in the future electricity. A 15 kg/hr pilot plant based on this technology is currently operating in Amiens. A beetroot vinasses (bioethanol industry by-product) pyro-gasification project is under way with Tereos, Finaxo Environnement and CVG as partners. This project is called Pyrobio Energy + and its objective is to produce heat while treating these vinasses. The results of the experiments show it is possible to use 60% d.s. concentrated vinasses producing a flammable gas and an inert powdery solid. The overall energy balance is positive.
