Abstract:
Increasing the use of biomass, including energy crops is one of the main objectives of the European Union energy policy both on national and regional levels in different European countries. The overall objective of the ENCROP project, cofinanced by the European Commission in the frame of the “Intelligent Energy for Europe, ALTENER Programme”, is therefore to promote the cultivation, production and utilisation of lignocellulosic energy crops at the European level. The chosen crops are reed canary grass (Finland), willow, hemp (Sweden) and poplar (Italy and Spain). Additionally, producing biogas from energy crops is introduced (Germany and Austria). Project’s time life is from October 2007 to August 2010.
