Abstract:
Preliminary results from an investigation into eluents for size exclusion chromatography of lignin found that NMP was superior to THF. A sample of organosolv lignin was fractionated by column chromatography and these fractions used to test the SEC systems. It was found that THF was not able to fully dissolve all the fractions, and no trend was seen when they were examined with THF as SEC eluent. When NMP was used as eluent a strong trend was observed. Confirmation of these findings will come from ongoing mass spectrometry analyses of the CCfractions (MALDIMS and ESIMS).
