Abstract:
An increasing share of fluctuating sources (wind and solar) is causing problems on power supply and grid security, fluctuations therefore must be balanced. Biomass as a storable energy carrier can be a technical option for that. In decentralized applications, solid fuel micro¬CHP concepts have the potential to support the electrical grid while supplying domestic users with heat and power. For the technical and systems assessment of these units, experience from the evaluation of domestic heat production can be used. For technical evaluation for the potential of micro¬CHP systems to deliver demand¬driven bioenergy, a classification based on the primary thermo¬chemical conversion process(es) and the electrical power production process is helpful.
