Abstract:
This work deals with the investigation of the driving forces and barriers that influences the penetration of biodiesel local industrial producers in certain geographical areas of Greece. The Greek biodiesel market was examined as an example of a European Union (EU) market. For this purpose, a Geographical Information System (GIS) based application was designed and developed. This application was applied for interpreting the spatiotemporal distribution of biodiesel production local units. After all, the diffusion of biodiesel, as an innovative product within a new market, like the Greek one, has been discussed and a new S-shape simulation model has been developed. The diffusion of biodiesel was simulated by this logistic function based model. The production/consumption influences the penetration of new biodiesel local producers in this industrial sector. Higher spatial concentration of the corresponding production units within Eastern Greece was detected.
