Abstract:
Fraunhofer UMSICHT, institute branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg is researching a new concept of external superheating, without the use of additional fossil energy, to increase the electrical efficiency and to improve the flexibility of energy conversion in biomass power plants. The main purpose of the project is to implement a pebble bed regenerator, a so-called Pebble-Heater, in biomass power plants and waste-to-energy plants for high temperature heat regeneration and storage at temperatures over 1.000 °C. Within this paper a thermodynamic model of the system implemented in MatlabŪSimulink is shown in order to determine the effect of the concept on the increase of electrical efficiency.
