Abstract:
In the context of developing the technologies involving renewable sources of energy, mankind in facing a challenge in terms of finding solutions for new types of fuels to replace partially or entirely the existing fossil fuels which are decreasing rapidly. Related with this aspect, biogas production is one of the existing ways of converting the biomass into a fuel which can be used in incineration or co-firing processes. The present work underlines the possibility of using cereal degraded material, namely oatmeal and barley in terms of biogas production using a pilot installation built inside the laboratories of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at the “Politehnica” University of Timisoara. The main purpose of the work is to observe the way in which process parameters (residence time, pH, temperature) influence the biogas production both in terms of quality and quantity, in direct relation with material properties before and after the process.
