Abstract:

Supercritical water gasification (SCWG) is a potential new technology for wet biomass such as sewage sludge, livestock manure, and it can quickly and efficiently convert organic materials in the feedstock into fuel gases. Sewage sludge mainly comprises organisms and microbes which contents phosphorus (P). In Japan, almost all phosphorus as phosphate rock is imported from China, Morocco, South Africa and Jordan. Therefore, the recovery and reuse of P from sewage sludge is important. However little was known on the behavior of inorganic matter in the biomass during SCWG. The P behavior during SCWG of sewage sludge was investigated in this study. The P in the feedstock is partitioned into the liquid product and the solid product in the proportion of approximately one part to nine by the reaction temperature 600°C and the pressure 25 MPa. The forms of phosphorus are strongly related to calcium and potassium during SCWG.
