Abstract:
Drying process of a single woody biomass particle is modeled using a multiphase porous media model. Three different methods including equilibrium, heterogeneous reaction and heat sink methods are used for calculation of evaporation rate. Sensitivity of the drying model to the methods used for calculation of the evaporation rate for two applied case studies is presented. The reaction method is highly sensitive to pre-exponential factor which is reported broadly different in the literature. The heat sink method shows acceptable agreement with experimental data for wood drying obtained at high-temperature range but not at moderate temperature range. The equilibrium method shows good agreement with experimental data at broad range of conditions.
