Abstract:
In this work, cereal straw torrefaction tests were carried out at pilot plant scale, and then compared with results from torrefaction simulator developed in CENER. Yield and characterization of the product has been analyzed as well as mass and energy balances. It was found that less energy is necessary to produce torrefied material from straw compared with wood. Results on simulation of the process, conducted in this work, fit well with those achieved experimentally in CENER’s pilot plant, which could be extrapolated to industrial scale even at different conditions with further simulations.
