Abstract:
In May 2012 the standard EN 30305 “Heating boilers. Part 5: Heating boilers for solid fuels, manually and automatically stoked, nominal heat output of up to 500 kW. Terminology, requirements, testing and marking” was approved by CEN. During the revision process there were some major changes approved. In tis article the focus is in challenges of safety issues and risk management. Furthermore there are observations about the revised testing standard implementation to the boiler business in general and to the testing activities. In 2011 the new boiler R&D environment was established in Central Finland. The facility fulfills the requirements of standard EN 3035 about the testing of solid biomass heating boilers. The revision of the testing standard EN 3035 was appropriate. The standard covers important topics related to the boiler overall efficiency and the emission of the energy conversion. Furthermore it considers safety issues widely and proactively.
